When it comes to creating custom art, the most rewarding projects often come from those closest to us. Recently, I had the pleasure of working on a very special commission for my neighbour and friend, Steve. In celebration of his 20th wedding anniversary, Steve requested a custom portrait of himself and his wife, Kathy.
From Photo to Painting: The Creative Process
Steve provided me with one of their cherished wedding photos—a beautiful image of Kathy sitting on Steve’s knee. However, he had a specific vision in mind for the portrait. He asked if I could re-imagine the scene with Kathy standing beside him. Of course, I was excited to bring this new composition to life.
After discussing his ideas, I sketched out a new mock up that matched Steve’s requirements. I wanted to ensure that the portrait reflected their love. I also aimed to capture the essence of the moment they were celebrating. To enhance the overall composition, I arranged the golf course in the background, which holds significance meaning for Steve.

The Artistic Journey
The process of transforming the original photo into a personalized work of art was truly a labour of love. It involved carefully re-imagining the positioning of Kathy. The goal was to create a piece that felt both familiar and new. It needed to evoke the warmth of their relationship. At the same time, it should stand as a unique artwork.
A Lasting Tribute
This portrait is more than just a painting; it’s a celebration of two decades of love, partnership, and shared memories. Every brushstroke was made with care. I knew that this piece would become a treasured part of Steve and Kathy’s life together. I’m honoured to have played a role in commemorating this milestone. I hope that the painting brings them joy for years to come.

Looking Forward
Working on this portrait has reaffirmed my passion for capturing life’s most meaningful moments through art. I’m excited to continue this journey with a series of paintings that celebrate the stories and milestones of others. If you have a special moment, you’d like to immortalize it in a custom painting. I’d love to help bring your vision to life.
Thank you for following along on this creative journey.
